Learn the secrets of Asian cuisine in this group cooking class with Angie Chong. Angie comes from a family where food is considered “The First Happiness”. She learnt to cook from her mother, Elizabeth Chong, celebrity chef, TV personality, food writer and teacher.

Angie will introduce you to all the ingredients and recipes for the day and tell you personal stories of growing up in Australia in a family obsessed with food.

This food event starts with a welcoming cup of tea served with lotus root crisps and candied walnuts. Then it’s time to learn how to make Asian stock and transform it into a delicious wonton and noodle soup.

Next up learn how to make dumpling dough by hand, then use it to create seafood and ginger dumplings with soy, lime and chilli dipping sauce.

Then it’s on to chicken & waterchestnut sung choy bao, where you will learn the true art of stir-frying. Eaten with fresh lettuce, this is crisp crunchy and juicy all at once.

Then the group will transform the soft and succulent caramelized pork and fill the  hot steamed buns to create the humble bao.

Finally, a refreshing and zingy Asian pomegranate and herb salad and a glass of wine  is served as you sit down, relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

This is a rare opportunity to spend time in the home of a talented teacher and get in depth with real Asian food and culture.

Angie Chong learnt to cook from her mother, Elizabeth Chong, celebrity chef, TV personality, food writer and teacher. Angie grew up surrounded by a large extended family and every weekend they gathered to cook and eat together. Angie’s workshops at The Humble Dumpling draw on this rich Chinese food culture centered around the sharing of food.
